Tu'aro Maohi Tahiti
Ia orana!
Paora, Stevie and Hana were amongst a team of six from Aotearoa who travelled over to Tahiti to compete in the Tu'aro Maohi, Traditional Ancestral Games tournament in Tahiti in July.
There were events such as javelin, copra coconut preparing, coconut tree climbing, amora'a ofai rock lifting and much more as part of the festival and celebrations. More importantly, there were opportunities for whanaungatanga, sharing stories and establishing whakapapa connections between us and our whanaunga from the Pacific; from Tahiti, Rarotonga, Rapanui, Hawaii, New Caledonia and Marquesas to name a few.

T.A.I.O.H.I. end of week 5
This week, we exposed Taiohi to various types of physical activity that increase our engagement with wai. Today we were out on Te Rotorua-nui-a-Kahu with Kelley Korau and her crew doing Waka Ama, while on Monday we thrashed the taiohi in the pools.
For more information about the T.A.I.O.H.I. progamme and other programmes we run at Te Papa Tākaro o Te Arawa, please contact Makuini at makuini@papatakaro.org.nz // 07 3483377
